Long Time

Whew, long time, no update. I've been pretty enmeshed in life lately. Last weekend I got to trade in a couple hours (helping a friend and classmate move in) for a fully provisioned hamster.

hamster faceI've had mice before, but am a new to this hamster experience. So far so good, mostly. Major Shortwave Bedhead occasionally likes to chew the edges of his habitrail set in the middle of the night, which I bribe him away from by throwing him a yogurt chip before collapsing back into bed. I gotta quit that; he's gonna get fat. Those are supposed to be occasional treats, but hell, I gotta catch some shuteye before the cat wakes me up loudly yacking in two more hours' time.

Wow, the rain is coming down a gullywasher out there. Did someone schedule a hurricane and forget to run it by me first?

So, the first week on the job has been a pretty good one. So far I haven't screwed up too badly, and I'm already handling a number of cases that's not far below what will be expected of me when I hit my stride. I get rave reviews on my phone style (like you had any doubt!) although I should probably hit up the leadership for guidance a bit more often, rather than going in guns a-blazin'.

The weird thing is that for the first time in my life, I am POP!-u-lurr. It's kind of disconcerting. I mean, sure there was my senior year in high school where the anomalous thing happened and all the popular/beautiful kids just so happened to be geeks and nerds and yet were just plain cool too. They took me under their wing and I became popular by proxy, sort of, but this is different.

Everybody at NegiYo seems to know me. Well I expected some of that, because, hell, I know a lot of people at NegiYo, and people who used to work there as well. And people who are their customers. And people who used to work with people who work there. And people who used to work with people who used to... uh, where was I?

I expected some of that. No big deal. And I expected to meet people on my own and make friends. Also no big deal. But all kinds of people are saying hi and know my name already.

I think it's the hair.

Today I got to spend 4.5 hours at the DMV, but I have a nice shiny new Florida license to show for it. I'm official. I'll scan it in as soon as the scanner makes it here from Condo Napalm. Tomorrow (Saturday, actually - pay no attention to the date on the entry), my passport gets updated, and then next Friday, my Social Security card. I think then I will finally be switched back over to my maiden name from after the divorce.

I've been divorced since September of 2000 and am just now getting everything switched, except for my New Jersey license, which was switched in February of 2001. Am I a slacker?
